Reclaiming the sky

"Rebuilding the World Trade Center" chronicles the restoration of the New York City skyline after the devastating attacks of 9/11. The two-hour film follows everything from the laying of the first foundation to topping the 104-floor building with its spire. Director Marcus Robinson used 13 cameras over eight years to capture the progress. 5 p.m., History

Front line

Another way to honor the 9/11 anniversary: "The Hornet's Nest," a documentary that pays tribute to the heroism and sacrifices of the U.S. Armed Forces in wake of the attack. Journalists Mike Boettcher and his son, Carlos, trace the action while being embedded with soldiers on the front lines in Afghanistan. 8 p.m., American Heroes Channel

Hanks a lot

There was much speculation that Oscar darling Tom Hanks would get two nominations last year for his work. Didn't happen. Judge for yourself if he got burned by watching "Saving Mr. Banks" (8 p.m.), in which Hanks channels the soft side of Walt Disney, and "Captain Phillips" (10:10 p.m.), a heart-pounding thriller in which a merchant mariner must deal with Somali pirates.
