TV picks for Oct. 28:  "Seduced and Abandoned,” "The Graduates,” Pete Holmes

James Toback and Alec Baldwin shed light on the absurdity of the film industry in “Seduced and Abandoned,” airing on HBO.

No Cannes do

Alec Baldwin and writer James Toback pitching a legitimate film at the Cannes Film Festival is a tantalizing idea for a documentary. Unfortunately, “Seduced and Abandoned” (8 p.m., HBO) isn’t that movie. Instead the two ship a half-formed, ridiculous concept to multi-millionaires in such a way that it feels like a version of “Punk’d.” Guys, leave the practical jokes to Jimmy Kimmel.

Staying in school

“The Graduates/Los Graduados” (9 p.m., TPT, Ch. 2) takes a hard look at the alarming dropout rate among Latino students through the eyes of six determined teenagers. The two-part film concludes next Monday.

Holmes sweet Holmes

Even though they are competitors, most of the late-night hosts are a pretty tight posse, so it’s perfectly understandable that “The Pete Holmes Show” (11 p.m., TBS) will debut with the extremely likable Holmes visiting Jon Stewart.
