This is the year that the Minnesota Book Awards added a new category: what once was Young Adult Literature has been split into two. In 2017, there will be prizes in both Young Adult and in Middle-Grade literature.
This brings to nine the number of categories: Novel & Short Story, Genre Fiction, Poetry, Children's LIterature, General Nonfiction, Memoir & Creative Nonfiction, Middle Grade Literature, Minnesota Nonfiction, and Young Adult Literature.
Submissions are now open for the 2017 awards; any book written by a Minnesota author, published in 2016, is eligible. Authors, publishers and agents can submit a book by completing an online form and sending in a $45 fee along with five copies of the book.
More information is here.
Submissions are open until 5 p.m. Nov. 18.
The finalists will be announced Jan. 28, and the winners will be announced at the annual gala event on April 8 in downtown St. Paul. The event will move from the Historic Union Depot to the Intercontinental Hotel on Kellogg Boulevard.
