Minnesota Public Radio looked within its ranks for a new host for its Saturday night jazz program. Maryann Sullivan, who has done the jazz calendar on Leigh Kamman's "Jazz Image" for 11 years, will take over as host, beginning tonight. Longtime jazz radio icon Kamman, who had hosted the program on MPR since 1973, retired after last Saturday's program. Sullivan will come up with a new name for the program, which is broadcast from 9 p.m. to midnight on Saturdays.
Since 1996, Sullivan has worked as a host for classical and news programs on MPR. She also has done many voice-overs for the radio network, including the underwriting messages. She began her jazz broadcasting career in the 1980s at KTWN-108 in Anoka. She went on to host jazz programs on KTCJ and KBEM.
