Free concerts at Mpls. church

In July: The free July concerts are returning to Plymouth Congregational Church. The annual series features shows on four Tuesday nights at the Minneapolis church. Up first are Minnesota Orchestra cellists Beth Rapier and Tony Ross with pianist Mary Jo Gothmann this Tuesday (July 7). They will play Baroque and 20th-century music for cellos. On the 14th, the popular quartet of Maria Jette, James Bohn, Lisa Drew and Vern Sutton returns with a salute to Broadway show tunes, with Sonja Thompson at the piano. Three young pianists — Jacob and Emma Taggart and Evren Ozel — are featured on July 21. The series concludes July 28 with the Copper Street Brass Quintet, which had the final spot last year as well. Concerts are free and begin at 7 p.m. in the church at 1900 Nicollet Av. S., Mpls.
