First Avenue hosts all-night dance party to honor Prince

In Minneapolis, music lovers are mourning the loss and celebrating the life of Prince.

• Minneapolis nightclub First Avenue, 701 N. 1st Av., will host an all-night dance party Thursday for those 18 years and older beginning at 11 p.m. There's no cover.

A Facebook post on the club's page said, "Our hearts are broken. Prince was the Patron Saint of First Avenue. He grew up on this stage, and then commanded it, and he united our city. … Rest in peace and power Prince."

• A special Prince tribute concert is planned in downtown Minneapolis from 8 to 10 p.m. Thursday. 7th Street between 1st and Hennepin avenues will be down to two lanes of traffic.

• The Interstate 35W and Lowry Avenue bridges in Minneapolis will be lit purple Thursday night.

• Target will turn the lights on its downtown Minneapolis headquarters purple at 8 p.m. Thursday.

• Lights on France Avenue in Edina will be lit purple.

• Minneapolis' City Hall bell tower will play Prince songs starting at 1 p.m. Sunday.

• Prince's symbol will be projected on the watertower atop the Wyman Partridge Building, 110 North 5th St. where Prince's Glam Slam club from the 1990's was located.

• Prince's Purple Rain suit will be on view for free from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Minnesota History Center, 345 Kellogg Blvd. W. in St. Paul. There will also be a space for remembrances.
