MADISON, Wis. — The state Department of Justice is asking that consideration of a lawsuit filed by a law enforcement union challenging the constitutionality of the Wisconsin law effectively ending collective bargaining for most public workers be delayed.

The Justice Department made the motion requesting a stay in the case to Dane County Circuit Judge John Markson on Wednesday.

The Justice Department argues that it makes no sense to move forward with this case while the Wisconsin Supreme Court is considering another challenge to the same law filed by two other unions.

The Justice Department argues that differences between the two cases are minor, and a decision by the Supreme Court will likely dictate the legal arguments in the other lawsuit brought by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Association.
