A neighborhood dispute in New Brighton erupted in gunfire Monday night, leaving one man dead, a woman wounded and another man in custody.

Police were called about 8:30 p.m. to a home in the 2500 block of Knollwood Drive, where they found a man dead from gunshot wounds and a woman who had been shot, said Police Chief Bob Jacobson. The woman was conscious when she was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center but Jacobson didn't know the severity of her injuries.

A man who lives nearby called police to say he wanted to turn himself in, Jacobson said. He was arrested and was being questioned by investigators late Monday night.

Jacobson said officers have been called to the area several times because of an ongoing dispute between the neighbors.
