Big Ten power rankings: Indiana jumps past Oregon, while Ohio State remains No. 1

Indiana shocked many with a win at Oregon, while Ohio State, USC and Washington rolled. Yet the biggest news was Penn State firing coach James Franklin.

1. Ohio State (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten): The Buckeyes weren’t at their dominant best in a 34-16 win at Illinois, but they made the Fighting Illini pay by turning three takeaways into 21 points.

2. Indiana (6-0, 3-0): A statement was made by the Hoosiers, who outgained Oregon 326-267 in a 30-20 victory in Eugene. Indiana beat a top-five team for the first time since 1967, its last Big Ten title season.

3. Oregon (5-1, 2-1): QB Dante Moore threw two interceptions and absorbed six sacks in the loss to Indiana. The Ducks saw their 18-game home winning streak end.

4. USC (5-1, 3-1): RB King Miller, a freshman walk-on, set the tone for the Trojans in a 31-13 victory over Michigan by rushing for 158 yards and a touchdown.

5. Washington (5-1, 2-1): Huskies QB Demond Williams Jr. had himself a night in a 38-19 win over Rutgers: 21-for-27 passing for 402 yards and two TDs, plus 13 carries for 136 yards and two TDs.

6. Nebraska (5-1, 2-1): Dylan Raiola threw three interceptions against Maryland, but his fourth TD pass with 1:08 remaining secured a 34-31 victory.

7. Illinois (5-2, 2-2): The Fighting Illini hung with Ohio State better than most before falling 34-16.

8. Michigan (4-2, 2-1): A three-game winning streak for the Wolverines ended in a 31-13 loss at USC. Michigan had trouble matching the Trojans’ physical play.

9. Iowa (4-2, 2-1): After a 37-0 blowout of Wisconsin, the Hawkeyes have won the past two episodes of the Heartland Trophy rivalry by a combined 79-10.

10. Gophers (4-2, 2-1): For the second time in two Big Ten home games, the Gophers erased a double-digit deficit. This time, it was Drake Lindsey and Koi Perich making the key plays in a 27-20 win.

11. Northwestern (4-2, 2-1): The Wildcats beat Penn State 22-21 for their first victory in Happy Valley since 2014. They’re on a three-game winning streak and next play host to Purdue.

12. Maryland (4-2, 1-2): The Terrapins have been outscored 31-0 in the fourth quarter the past two weeks in losses to Washington and Nebraska. Next up: a trip to red-hot UCLA.

13. UCLA (2-4, 2-1): The Bruins showed they weren’t one-hit wonders by hammering Michigan State 38-13 in East Lansing. They’ve scored 80 points in their past two games after scoring 57 in their first four.

14. Penn State (3-3, 0-3): Three weeks ago, the Nittany Lions had Oregon on the ropes in overtime. Since then, they’ve lost to the Ducks, UCLA and Northwestern by a combined 12 points, QB Drew Allar was lost for the season because of an injury Saturday, and coach James Franklin was fired Sunday.

15. Rutgers (3-3, 0-3): A three-point halftime lead at Washington evaporated quickly as the Scarlet Knights fell 38-19. Rutgers gave up 579 yards to the Huskies and now must face an angry Oregon team.

16. Purdue (2-4, 0-3): The Boilermakers outgained Minnesota 456-262 but lost the turnover battle 4-1 and the game 27-20.

17. Michigan State (3-3, 0-3): The Spartans allowed 418 yards of offense in a 38-13 home loss to UCLA. That doesn’t bode well with a trip to No. 3 Indiana coming this week.

18. Wisconsin (2-4, 0-3): Drubbed 37-0 by Iowa and losers of four consecutive games, the Badgers now face No. 1 Ohio State and No. 8 Oregon in their next two games.
