Lamont Hamilton, an athlete from St. Catherine’s High School in Racine, Wis., announced Sunday on the X social media platform that he has committed to the Gophers football team for its 2026 recruiting class.
Hamilton, 6-0 and 170 pounds, plays defensive back and wide receiver for St. Catherine’s and is included in the athlete category for recruiting purposes, though he has yet to have a star rating. He is projected as a defensive back with the Gophers.
Hamilton made his official visit to the Gophers on Saturday for Minnesota’s 27-20 victory over Purdue. He received his scholarship offer from the Gophers in January, and Kent State, Illinois State, Western Illinois and Northern Iowa followed with offers.
As a junior last season, Hamilton caught 30 passes for 751 yards and 15 touchdowns, helping St. Catherine’s go 14-0 and win the Division 4 state championship. He also is a standout guard on the school’s basketball team.
The addition of Hamilton gives the Gophers 25 members of their 2026 recruiting class. The class, as of Sunday afternoon, was ranked 28th nationally and ninth among Big Ten teams in the 247Sports composite ratings of major recruiting services.
