NFL suspends Vikings receiver Jordan Addison for the first three games of the 2025 season

Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison is suspended without pay for the first three games of the 2025 regular season for a violation of the league’s substances of abuse policy, the NFL announced Tuesday.

Addison pleaded no contest in July to a lesser charge of wet reckless driving stemming from a July 2024 drunken driving arrest in Los Angeles.

His original charges of driving under the influence and driving with a .08% blood alcohol content were dismissed. Addison had pleaded not guilty to them in December.

A three-game suspension is the standard for a first-time violation of the league’s substance abuse policies.

The first regular-season game Addison will be allowed to play will be the Vikings’ Week 4 international game against the Steelers in Dublin.

Addison is allowed continued participation in Vikings training camp and in all three preseason games. The Vikings open their preseason against the Texans at 3 p.m. Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium.

“Whatever the league got for me, I’ll be prepared [for] whatever decision they make,” Addison said at the start of Vikings training camp.

That arrest was Addison’s second in a year but his first with substance-related charges. He was arrested in July 2023 in St. Paul for driving 140 mph in a 65-mph zone on Interstate 94. He agreed to plead guilty to a petty misdemeanor speeding charge.

As part of Addison’s July plea deal, he is under a 12-month probation and has been ordered to take two driving programs. He also was required to pay a standard $390 fine.

Addison has a progress report set for Oct. 29 in Los Angeles.

Addison has played a large role in training camp so far, particularly in the absence of star wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who is nursing a minor left hamstring strain and has been out of practice since July 24.

Jalen Nailor and Lucky Jackson have also had increased roles through training camp with Jefferson out and would likely see increased playing time in Addison’s absence, too. Jefferson is expected to be available by the Sept. 8 season opener against the Bears.

“You might not have players on the field for various reasons, and you always got to be ready with depth, players you’re excited about taking the field and taking those opportunities, and this is no different,” Adofo-Mensah said.
