Two Mixed Up’s modestly named Just a Burger is now being served in the downtown Minneapolis skyway. The new stand from the group softly opened in the bright, revamped space with plenty of seating in the Deluxe Plaza (121 S. 8th St.)

On the menu, in addition to that burger, are other comfort foods like Buffalo chicken-topped mac and cheese, teriyaki chicken rice bowl with broccoli and a serious cheesesteak sandwich. All menu items include fries and a drink. When we stopped by, owners were still working out details like regular hours and a final menu.

Meanwhile, the original Graze location (520 N. 4th St., Mpls.) is open as usual.

Longfellow bakery plans move to St. Paul

Savory Bakehouse announced plans to relocate from its longtime home at 3008 36th Av. S., just off Lake Street in the Longfellow neighborhood to a new, roomier bakery space somewhere in St. Paul. After 11 years in the small storefront, famous for long lines on the limited days it’s open, they shared the news on Instagram that after much consideration, the bakery is crossing the river.

The good news is that the new location will allow for folks to actually approach a bakery counter and pick out treats. Plus, there will be more space for the super-small operation founded by Sandy Sherva and Max Okray to do its baking.

No address or end date have been announced just yet, but holiday orders are still open on the website.

Sociable Ciderwerks food trailer welcomes a new tenant

The trailer outside of the Northeast’s Sociable Cider Werks (1500 NE. Fillmore St., Mpls.) has become a launching pad for restaurants like Union Hmong Kitchen and Francis Burger Joint’s vegan burgers. Its next tenant was just announced: Smashed Patty’s. Not surprisingly, the menu is dominated by smashies with turkey and tofu options available. There are also gluten-friendly buns available.

Smashed Patty’s is open from 4-9 p.m. Mon.-Fri., 1-9 p.m. Sat. and noon-7 p.m. Sun.

North Loop hotel, restaurant getting a refresh

The Hewing Hotel just announced a major refresh ahead of its 10-year anniversary in the North Loop. Amid the reset, its restaurant Tullibee (300 Washington Av. N., Mpls.) will close from January through mid-February.

During the interior work, the Hewing’s rooftop bar will remain open, and on Jan. 15 will open an outdoor ice bar that will offer a menu of winter-appropriate light bites and beverages created with rotating spirit partners.

Dinkytown sandwich shop closing soon

Banh Appetit (511 14th Av. SE., Mpls.) has announced on Instagram that it plans to close at the end of the year. “Due to multiple reasons, we feel it would not be ideal for us to continue operations.” Specializing in banh mi sandwiches, the restaurant’s final day will be Dec. 23.

Another work meeting eatery bites the dust

In bummer news for morning meeting briberies: Bruegger’s Bagels in downtown Minneapolis closed Dec. 5. The bagel chain, which also served soups and other menu items, closed without much notice for fans. Located at 651 Nicollet Mall, the closure comes just after neighboring business D’Amico & Sons, another popular corporate meeting caterer, closed its Gaviidae Common location. The Bruegger’s exit means the chain’s closest location to downtown is in Stadium Village.
