P&G says its Dry Max diapers are selling well

CINCINNATI - A Procter & Gamble Co. official Thursday reported strong sales for new versions of Pampers, despite complaints that triggered a government safety investigation.

Jon Moeller, chief financial officer, told investors that the consumer products company is seeing sales above expectations for the Dry Max diapers launched in March.

"The consumer vote is disproportionately positive," Moeller said in a Goldman Sachs conference in New York.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said last week it is probing reports about babies and toddlers suffering severe diaper rashes and blisters from the new, thinner diapers. P&G responded that the claims were "completely false" and that it has received fewer than two complaints about rashes for every million Pampers sold.

"There are a small group of consumers who were not satisfied, and we're working to address that," Moeller said.

A Facebook page online asking to bring back the older versions of Pampers Swaddlers and Cruisers diapers has more than 4,000 members, and a federal lawsuit was filed this week in Cincinnati on behalf of buyers of the diapers.

P&G shares fell 27 cents to $62.75 Thursday.

Nonprofit leaders say they have had to lay off staff and take other measures to shore up finances as the Trump administration’s attacks on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts have chilled corporate giving and led to cuts in federal and state grants.
