Officials on Wednesday identified more of Minneapolis’ six recent homicide victims, including a 32-year-old man shot to death Tuesday at a Metro Transit station in what Police Chief Brian O’Hara called an “absolutely terrible” week of gun violence in the city.
The gunfire occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. inside the Chicago and Lake Transit Center, police said.
Cartez Montel Clinton died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. The chief said the suspected shooter ran north on Chicago Avenue and has yet to be arrested.
“This began as an altercation between two men ... that then escalated into gunfire,” O’Hara said during a news conference a few hours later near the scene of the shooting. “This does not appear to be a random act.”
The chief said investigators have “tons of video” from surveillance cameras to go through in its pursuit of the shooter.
There have been six homicides in the city in the past week, according to a Star Tribune data base. The 2025 total now stands at 44. That compares to 54 at this time last year in Minneapolis.
“We recognize that this shooting comes after a number of violent incidents that have shaken our city,” the chief said. “Every incident compounds the pain and anxiety that people in our community are feeling. We hear and we share the community’s frustration and grief, and we are committed to doing everything we possibly can to make Minneapolis safer for everyone.”
O’Hara went on to say, “This week has been absolutely terrible.”
