UNIVErsity Park, Pa. – Kelly Pannek and Hannah Brandt each scored two goals as the No. 1-rated Gophers cruised past Penn State 5-0 on Friday night in a nonconference women's hockey game at Pegula Ice Arena.

This was a far different game than Thursday, in which the Gophers led only 1-0 into the last minute before getting an empty-net goal.

The Gophers, facing a different goalie the second night, took a 2-0 lead in the opening period. Pannek scored on Hanna Ehresmann at 3 minutes, 14 seconds. Brandt made it 2-0 about four minutes later. Shots were a one-sided 17-1 in the period, unlike in the season opener when the Nittany Lions had a 12-8 edge in shots after one period.

Megan Wolfe made it 3-0 in the third minute of the second period and Pannek got the visitors' fourth goal with 1:26 left in the period.

Brandt got her second goal in the fifth minute of the final period.

Sidney Peters made five saves for the shutout.
