The 6-month-old infant who died in Big Lake on Friday suffered from bacterial meningitis and lived in a home that health authorities have deemed unlivable.

In a news release Monday, the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office identified the child as Gideon Peter Mwangi. He was discovered in “an extremely dirty and cluttered house” that had black mold in numerous locations, the release said.

An investigation into the child’s death is ongoing, yet no arrests have been made.

Investigators were called to the home around 8 a.m. Friday after receiving a report of an unresponsive child.

The Big Lake Police Department, Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, the Sherburne County Health and Human Services Department and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office are involved in the investigation.
