A man who had fled police was shot by law enforcement during a stop in Duluth, Minn., late Tuesday, Feb. 10, and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
Two deputies from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office fired their weapons after stopping a vehicle in the 7900 block of Grand Avenue. A man was struck. Law enforcement provided first-aid at the scene, but the victim died at the scene, according to a statement from St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsay.
Events unfolded about 9:40 p.m. when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving on Grand Avenue near 59th Avenue in West Duluth.
The driver took off and eventually stopped about 20 blocks later.
Details as to what transpired at the scene have not been released, but shots were fired during the incident, the sheriff said.
The deputies were not hurt, Ramsay said.
A handgun was found in the driver’s seat of man’s vehicle, Ramsay said.
“To avoid any conflicts and ensure transparency, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has been requested to investigate this incident,” Ramsay said.
