Junior Brett Pfarr of the Gophers was pinned at 6:28 by J'Den Cox of Missouri on Friday in the 197-pound semifinals of the NCAA wrestling championships at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
It was the second loss for Pfarr (38-4), seeded third, to second seed Cox (31-1) this season. Cox won a December match 4-1. Earlier, Pfarr beat Patrick Downey of Iowa State on a 12-3 major decision in the quarterfinals to assure being an All-America (top eight) for the first time.
Michael Kroells, a junior heavyweight, won three matches in the wrestlebacks on Day 2 but lost his fourth to Amarveer Dhesi of Oregon State 8-5.
Freshman Tommy Thorn (141) and sophomore Nick Wanzek (174) of the Gophers lost early in the wrestlebacks and were eliminated.
Three track titles for U
Erin Hawkins of the Gophers women's track and field team won the 400-meter run (55.62) at the Jaguar Classic in Mobile, Ala.
Two teammates also won titles. Lyndsey Thorpe took first in the hammer throw (58.37 meters) to lead a top-four sweep by the Gophers and Nicolle Murphy won the javelin (51.74).

• Junior Yu Zhou of the Gophers finished fifth in 3-meter diving in the NCAA women's swimming and diving championships in Atlanta. She was the defending champion in the event. Sophomore Brooke Zeiger placed sixth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:05.38).
• Mike Lanz of St. Thomas placed third in the 200 butterfly (1:45.76) in the NCAA Division III men's and women's swimming and diving championships in Greensboro, N.C., while Emma Paulson of the Tommies won the 100 backstroke – her second championship in two days – with a time of 54.43.
