ST. CLOUD – The struggling Gophers women's hockey team beat host St. Cloud State 2-1 on Friday night for their 33rd consecutive victory over the Huskies.
No. 4 Minnesota (18-5-3, 14-4-3-2 WCHA) went into Friday 1-2-1 in its past four games.
Nicole Schammel's goal at 7 minutes, 29 seconds of the third period broke a 1-1 tie. Kippin Keller's first goal of the season gave the Gophers a 1-0 lead. It came shorthanded at 4:06 of the opening period.
"It wasn't the prettiest game by any stretch, but I'm proud of our kids in finding a way," Gophers coach Brad Frost said.
Junior center Kelly Pannek, the nation's points leader with 50, got an assist on Keller's goal, extending her point streak to 23 games. She has 36 assists.
Payge Pena scored for the Huskies (7-17-3, 5-14-2-2) at 7:31 of the second.
Sidney Peters made 12 saves for the Gophers, Madeleine Dahl 22 for the Huskies.
