Aside from increased traffic near the State Fair, the most difficult driving this weekend will likely be in the northwest Twin Cities metro, where eastbound Hwy. 10 will be reduced to a single lane.
Drivers will have only one eastbound lane available between Round Lake and Hanson boulevards in Coon Rapids from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Traffic may be stopped for short periods between 1:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Saturday, said Kent Barnard, a MnDOT spokesman.
Crews will be moving barriers to shift traffic from outside lanes to inside lanes.
MnDOT is building a third lane in both directions of Hwy. 10 to help alleviate congestion. When the project is done this fall, the goal is to have free-flowing traffic between Elk River and Brooklyn Park.
