Comedian Dave Chappelle brought flowers to Alex Pretti’s memorial site on Feb. 16.
KARE 11 caught the internationally renowned comedian as he walked up and placed the bouquet at the south end of the memorial site.
Chappelle was in town for two shows on Feb. 15 at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis, and one show Feb. 16 at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul.
He’s known for button-pushing comedy on timely social and political issues, from performing at the controversial Riyadh Comedy Festival to talking about racism and transgender identity.
In his nearly one-hour show, he honored the Twin Cities, similar to what he did in 2021 in the wake of George Floyd’s murder when Chappelle performed at Target Center with Usher and Justin Bieber.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t get here sooner,” Chappelle said at the top of the show. “But you didn’t need me!”
At the end of the show, he announced that all proceeds would stay in the community.
