Move 'em out and move 'em in.
Retail churn is accelerating at malls across the country, forcing leasing agents to become more creative to fill spaces. At the Mall of America, they are turning to actress and fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker.
She is partnering with the mall's owner, Triple Five, to open the next SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker at the mall this summer. Known for many roles but most enduringly as Carrie Bradshaw on "Sex and the City," Parker's fashion business features footwear and accessories. The Mall of America store will be its sixth and first in the Midwest.
"This is an exciting time for us as our company continues to grow. We're thrilled that part of this growth includes a new partnership with Triple 5. Their enthusiasm and support has been so exciting," Parker said in a statement.
For years a model at brands such as Gap and Garnier, Parker ventured into the fashion business herself in 2014 with a collection of footwear that sold in department stores such as Nordstrom.
The business expanded into other apparel, and Parker opened boutiques in New York, Las Vegas, Oxon Hill, Md., and Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
At the Mall of America, her store will occupy 1,300 square feet located on the west side of the mall's first level in the space that formerly housed Solstice.
All the SJP footwear is made in Italy, and the apparel and accessories are made in the U.S. Shoes, with prices ranging from $300 to $700, are also sold at Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.
