Proprietor Note: If any RandBall readers are also Access Vikings premium subscribers (or are on the fence as to whether they should take the plunge), yours truly will be hosting the in-game chat tomorrow. Not sure if that's an enticement or a warning, but consider it a fact. And now:

Jon Marthaler bakes up a batch of delicious links just for you. Other times, you can find him here and here. Jon?

Happy Saturday - and isn't it a fine Saturday? In fact, don't even let me waste your time with another moment of pointless rambling. Let's get straight to the links.

*Vikes Geek is confused about the Purple's decision to extend Brad Childress, a decision that seems to be based on (as the Geek so wonderfully puts it) "the gradual evolution of Childress' public persona to that of a normally functioning individual." Tremendous.

*You might remember the France vs. Ireland match decided in midweek thanks to a handball. There was major backlash, of course - but here's some great backlash to the backlash, written by an Irishman. (Language alert, but otherwise, go to it.)

*Zack Greinke caused a bit of a stir when he admitted that he is mostly concerned about his FIP (Fielding-Independent Pitching) numbers, not his ERA. Parker Hageman at Over the Baggy does a nice job of explaining why we should all emulate the AL Cy Young winner, at least in this respect.

*And finally: How this article didn't mention Ed Hightower, I'll never know.

That's enough for me. And now, if I were you, I'd head over to the Star Tribune prep sports blog on GameFaceMN.com to follow the Strib's coverage of the state football semifinals. Seems like your best bet for some sports-related entertainment today, anyway. [Second Proprietor Note: We didn't even implore Jon to say that! But yes, please do so. We'll be taking you through the Class 4A semifinal between Mankato West and Totino-Grace starting at about 12:45 p.m. It's No. 1 vs. No. 2. Should be a great game].

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
