MOSCOW — Olympic champion Usain Bolt restored order to the world of sprinting Sunday, regaining the 100-meter world championship title he lost through a false start two years ago.
Despite a slow start in the pouring rain, the Jamaican steadily caught up with 2004 Olympic champion Justin Gatlin. He then left the American behind with a trademark late burst of speed that still no one can match.
He won in 9.77 seconds while Gatlin crossed second in 9.85. Nesta Carter of Jamaica took the bronze in 9.95.
If the result was predictable, Bolt's demeanor was not. He remained expressionless as he ran through the finish line, dispensing with the antics and showmanship that have become part of his fame.
