A head-on crash overnight Saturday in Chisago County killed two teens and injured three others; police say alcohol may have been a factor.
Police responded around 2 a.m. to a crash near the intersection of Stacy Trail and Ivywood Trail just outside Chisago City. A 15-year-old male passenger in one of the vehicles, a Toyota Camry, died at the scene.
Two other teens in the Camry — a 14-year-old male driver and 15-year-old male passenger — sustained serious injuries. One was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, while the other was taken to Regions by ambulance.
The 17-year-old male driver of the other vehicle, a Toyota 4-Runner, was transported by air to Regions and later died there. An 18-year-old male passenger in the 4-Runner was taken by ambulance to HCMC in Minneapolis.
According to a release from the Lakes Area Police Department, alcohol was located at the scene and may have been a factor in the crash. The incident remained under investigation Saturday evening.
