A while back on Twitter, we wondered about this: Who would be the first among Jamey Carroll and Ben Revere to hit a home run for the Twins. Revere has never hit one in the majors and has just five in the minors -- though one came in 2011. Carroll had just 12 in his much longer career, the most recent coming in 2009. Most people who responded to the question seemed to think Revere was the best candidate to launch one. He's younger, reasonably muscular and seems to be hitting the ball with more authority this year vs. last year, they reasoned.
Their reasoning was not wrong. But they were wrong.
On Monday, one at-bat after beating out a trademark infield single, Carroll turned on a fastball and launched it down the line at U.S. Cellular Field for career home run No. 13 in almost 4,000 plate appearances. The breakdown of his homers by ballpark is fairly interesting:
