People have been lining up to take shots at Jay Cutler all week … all season … all his life, and let's admit it: Cutler is an easy target.
In spite of career numbers that suggest he's an adequate to pretty good NFL QB — a poor man's Brett Favre, without the grit — his body language makes it easy to blame him when things go wrong.
Still, it's unusual, at least, for a star wide receiver on a quarterback's own team to agree that, yeah, maybe Cutler could be doing better. Per the Chicago Tribune's transcript of a recent radio interview with Brandon Marshall:
The day after being released from Northwestern Hospital, Marshall unexpectedly appeared on WMVP-AM (1000) Monday evening and discussed Cutler, the lung and ribs injury that ended his season and what he called "the most frustrating season" of his career. Most notably, Marshall was asked about Sunday's NFL Network report that a sense of "buyer's remorse" exists at Halas Hall about the seven-year, $126.7 million contract to which the team signed Cutler in January.
"That's tough, man," Marshall said on his radio show. "What I would say is we all know Jay is more than capable of getting it done. It doesn't always fall on him. I guess that's why those guys are the highest paid players out there. Because when you win and everything is going good, they get all the glory. And when it's bad, they take more than what they should take. But I can understand that as far as as a business man, I would have buyer's remorse, too."
Ouch. Even for a guy who looks like he doesn't care, that has to sting.
