Jackson LaCombe was added to the U.S. Olympic men’s ice hockey team on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
The 25-year-old defenseman from Eden Prairie is in his third full season with the Anaheim Ducks after playing four seasons for the Gophers.
He replaces Seth Jones of the Florida Panthers, who has been sidelined with an upper-body injury.
LaCombe is the fifth Minnesotan on Team USA, joining Wild defenseman Brock Faber (Maple Grove), Tampa Bay winger Jake Guentzel (Woodbury), Colorado center Brock Nelson (Warroad) and Dallas goalie Jake Oettinger (Lakeville).
Quinn Hughes and Matt Boldy of the Wild are also on Team USA. Wild general manager Bill Guerin is also the GM of the U.S. Olympic squad.
LaCombe has already won two gold medals while wearing the U.S. jersey — he was on the world junior championship team in 2021 and played for the American team that won the world championships last year.
He signed an eight-year, $72 million contract extension before this season, and has six goals and 25 assists in 49 games this season.
The Wild have four players on Team Sweden for the Olympics, including center Joel Eriksson Ek, goalies Jesper Wallstedt and Filip Gustavsson, and defenseman Jonas Brodin.
