Target Corp. said Tuesday it is voluntarily recalling 25,000 two-bulb floor lamps after it received six reports of short circuits that resulted in two consumers being shocked, fires and minor property damage.
The announcement, made in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, identified the lamps as model PL1071, a number that can be found on the bottom of the lamp.
The affected products were described as white plastic, turned-spindle design floor lamps with white fabric drum lamp shades and two three-way pull chain switches.
"The lamp can short when a standard one-way bulb is fully tightened in the lamp's three-way socket," the announcement said. "Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lamp, unplug it and return it to any Target store for a full refund."
The lamps were sold exclusively in Target stores and through Target.com, from September 2012 through May 2013, the safety commission said.
The lamps were produced in China by J. Hunt & Co. of Bono, Ark. Out of the 25,000 lamps sold, most were bought in the United States, but about 540 were purchased in Canada, the announcement said.
