Kudos to retailers with good timingCrate & Barrel's summer clearance (Galleria, Edina, 952-920-2300, www.crateand barrel.com) started this week with many accessories and furniture items on sale up to 60 percent off. Crate & Barrel deserves kudos for the large number of summer items that go on sale even before summer officially starts June 21. Buyer's tip: If you're considering any furniture pieces, look for the words "final sale" on floor samples, which are not returnable. The official start date of the sale is Friday, but one employee told me that markdowns started earlier this week.

More kudos goes to Nordstrom (Mall of America, Bloomington, 952-883-2121, www.nordstrom.com), which starts its half-yearly sale for men every year on the Friday before Father's Day. The sale runs through July 4.

Occasional sale for lodge-look nicheAnyone wanting a lodge look in a den or lake home can save time but not a lot of money at the grand opening of Lake Lodge & Cabin occasional sale (1515 S. 5th St., Hopkins, 612-201-1352, www.lakelodgeand cabin.com). Boatloads of retailers sell the lodge look but often it's new stuff made to look old. Owners Otteau Christiansen and Carol Gallagher collect the real thing, including vintage skis, snowshoes, trunks, canoes, wildlife art, blankets, fishing poles, lures and kitchenware. Nearly 1,000 items will be for sale during the occasional sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Sunday.

Recent cabin buyers can get ideas for furnishing their place at the sale since Gallagher has staged the items into vignettes.

If you're interested in selling your cabin/lodge furnishings, contact the owners. The next sale will be in two months.
