A St. Paul woman hit by a car while crossing the street with her husband has died from her injuries.

The St. Paul Police Department said 75-year-old Janet Mary Stevens died on Nov. 29. Stevens was struck by a vehicle around 11 a.m. Nov. 23 while crossing Summit Avenue near Dale Street with her husband. Medics took Stevens to Regions Hospital in critical condition as her husband left the scene with minor injuries.

According to preliminary information, Stevens and her husband were in the crosswalk and had the right of way when crossing Summit Avenue. The 22-year-old driver who hit Stevens stayed at the scene. Authorities believe the driver was not under the influence.

Stevens marks the second recent pedestrian death in St. Paul. Weeks earlier, 30-year-old Amber Deneen died in a hit-and-run accident. The alleged driver of that vehicle was arrested days later, claiming he thought he hit traffic cones when striking Deenen and her dogs.
