Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tray Walker died Friday of injuries he suffered in a dirt bike crash in Miami.

Walker, 23, played one season in the NFL.

Miami-Dade police said Walker was riding a dirt bike with no lights and wearing dark clothing when he collided with a Ford Escape on Thursday night. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

In a letter to the team Friday before Walker died, Ravens coach John Harbaugh wrote: "That was the kind of phone call you never want get as a coach, as a parent, as a brother, as a friend. This shook me and all of us."

A fourth-round 2015 draft pick, Walker played in eight games last season, mostly on special teams.

• Cleveland cornerback Joe Haden underwent surgery on his ankle but is expected to recover in time for training camp in July.

• Indianapolis signed free-agent running back Jordan Todman, who was used sparingly by Pittsburgh last season.

• Buffalo signed safety Robert Blanton, who spent the past four seasons with the Vikings.

LaRoche saga builds

The uproar over Adam LaRoche's abrupt retirement from the Chicago White Sox turned ugly Friday, with ace Chris Sale accusing an executive vice president of lying to the team about why LaRoche's son needed to spend less time around the clubhouse.

LaRoche announced this week that he was leaving after VP Kenny Williams asked him to cut the amount of time his 14-year-old son, Drake, was spending with the White Sox. White Sox players were told three different stories by Williams about what happened, Sale said.

"We got boldfaced lied to by someone we're supposed to be able to trust," he said.

• Toronto pitcher Brad Penny said he has decided to retire after 14 seasons in the majors. Penny had a 10.29 ERA in four exhibition appearances.

• Tampa Bay closer Brad Boxberger, who led the American League in saves with 41 last season, will miss at least eight weeks after having abdominal muscle surgery.
