Police identify pedestrian fatally hit by car, Metro Transit bus in Minneapolis

The victim was struck while trying to cross Franklin Avenue, police said.

Police on Monday identified a pedestrian who was hit by two vehicles and killed late last month.

Said Abdi Ahmed, 36, of Minneapolis was struck first by a car and then a Metro Transit bus about 3 p.m. on Sept. 27 as he crossed Franklin Avenue midblock near Cedar Avenue, according to police records.

Both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police.

Police records identified the car’s driver as 38-year-old Mohamed M. Abdi, of Minneapolis, and the bus driver as 35-year-old Najib Jamil, of New Brighton.

Ahmed, who lived within a mile of the crash site, was declared dead at the scene by emergency responders.
