A New Year’s party host was playing with a gun at a home in northwestern Minnesota, said “do you trust me?” to one of his guests and fatally shot the man, according to newly filed charges.

Myron Allen Johanson, 26, of Wolverton, was charged on Jan. 5 with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in connection with the killing of 22-year-old Jorden Boehm, of Fargo, less than an hour into 2026.

Specifically, the murder charge alleges that Johanson carried out a dangerous act while while having a “depraved mind,” while the manslaughter court accuses him of creating an “unreasonable risk.“

Johanson was arrested at the scene, his home in the 1700 block of Hwy. 75, and remains jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail. He’s due in court on Jan. 27. Johanson’s attorney declined to comment about the allegations.

According to the criminal complaint:

Following a 911 call, sheriff’s deputies and agents with the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension arrived at the home and were met by Johanson, who directed them to Boehm’s body on the floor with a gunshot wound to the neck.

Witnesses among the roughly 10 people attending the party said a holster-wearing Johanson had a handgun with him throughout the evening and they saw him “playing with it, pointing it at others in the house and leaving it ... on the table,” the charges read. He also aimed the gun at himself twice.

One partygoer said he had the gun pointed by Johanson at the top of his head and was asked, “ ’Do you trust me?’ ” the charges continued. The man responded, “ ‘No, I do not.’ ”

Johanson then put the gun under Boehm’s chin and asked him the same question. The gun then went off.

During questioning after his arrest, Johanson said he removed all the ammunition from the gun, put it on his bed and called 911. Deputies arrived and seized the weapon.
