Besides the Gophers, who beat Michigan State 5-1 at Mariucci on Friday, eight other WCHA teams also played last night.
Here is how they fared:
New Hampshire 5, St. Cloud State 2
After falling behind 2-0 in the opening period, the Huskies rallied to tie 2-2 in the second on goals by Andrew Prochno and Ben Hanowski. But the Wildcats scored the first three goals of the third period to take control again. Tim Daly had the Huskies' third goal in the final period.
Minnesota State 4, Alabama-Huntsville 1
Sophomore forward Chase Grant, coming off a red-shirt season for a hip injury, scored a hat trick, all on power plays for the Mavericks. Linemate Matt Leitner, also a sophomore, had a short-handed goal and three assists. The win was the first for new MSU coach Mike Hastings and came on the road.
Northern Michigan 2, Wisconsin 1, in Green Bay
The Wildcats scored two third-period goals to beat Wisconsin. Reed Seckel scored at 18 seconds during a scramble for UNM. Cohen Adair made it 2-1 Wildcats when his centering pass deflected in off a skate.
