The Pirtek Snocross National will be held Friday and Saturday at Canterbury Park. The event is part of the AMSOIL Championship Snocross series, which features the best pro and amateur athletes in the sport.

Among the expected competitors is Tucker Hibbert, who won his 110th pro national race last month at his home track, Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, Minn.

Racing begins at 11 a.m. Friday and 7:55 a.m. Saturday. The pro race is at 6 p.m. both days. General admission tickets start at $15 on Friday and $20 on Saturday.

• Seniors Goaner Deng, Luke Johnson and Adam Zutz were named the captains of the Gophers men's track and field team for the upcoming season. Deng is a middle-distance runner, Johnson a shot-putter and Zutz a distance runner. Zutz also was a cross-country captain. Minnesota opens its 2016 indoor season Saturday by holding the Northwest Open at the University's Fieldhouse.

• North Dakota sophomore goalie Cam Johnson was named the Hockey Commissioners' Association player of the month for December. The native of Troy, Mich., was 4-0 last month with three shutouts. He is 9-0-1 overall and leads the nation with a 1.07 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage.

• Allan McCallum, a former all-conference swimmer at TCU, was named the first women's swimming coach at the University of Mary. The Marauders will begin competing in the 2016-17 season. … The NSIC school in Bismarck, N.D., also named Kerry Shaw its softball coach. He is a former member of the USA national fastpitch softball team.
