Minnesota scene: Final series at Midway begins with Saints loss

The St. Paul Saints' final series ever at Midway Stadium began with a 12-inning, 10-6 loss to the North Division champion Winnipeg Goldeyes on Tuesday night.

Luis Alen's RBI double broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the 12th, and Winnipeg went on to score four more times. Alen went 4-for-4.

Winnipeg (60-34) won for the ninth time in 10 games. The Saints dropped to one game over .500 (47-46).

The teams used 12 pitchers and combined for 33 hits. The game lasted 4 hours, 22 minutes and drew an announced crowd of 6,009.

St. Paul and Winnipeg play at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday before the doors close at Midway, the Saints' home for 22 seasons. They will move to a new park in downtown St. Paul next season.
