Minnesota’s Hockey Hall of Fame is getting a permanent home in Inver Grove Height. The space will open in 2028.
The new complex, which was announced on Dec. 17, will stand next to the Minnesota Vikings’ headquarters and practice facility.
“Hockey has become a major part of life in the land for 10,000 lakes,” said hockey legend Lou Nanne in a video announcing the project. “Its tapestry has been woven from all four corners of our state.”
The interactive 120,000-square-foot space will be “more than a museum,” the Minnesota Hockey Hall of Fame’s website said. Hands-on exhibits will include 360-degree digital experiences for visitors to “relive historic moments.”
The new amenities will include an ice rink and a 20,000-square-foot performance hall for concerts and induction ceremonies.
Inver Grove Heights Mayor Brenda Dietrich said in a news release that the city is thrilled about the development.
“The site is in our northwest area, which has long been envisioned for major development,” she said. “The Hall of Fame offers the opportunity for new amenities and attractions that will benefit Inver Grove Heights for years to come.”
The Minnesota Hockey Hall of Fame will be partnering with the the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in Eveleth, Minn., which is 25 miles east of Hibbing.
