Medtronic Inc. completed its workforce cutbacks in mid-May, eliminating 1,700 jobs worldwide, a spokesman said Monday.
Steven Cragle, the company's senior director of public relations, said the job reductions included layoffs, attrition, early retirements and not filling some empty positions at the time of the restructuring announcement in February.
The medical device company said at the time that it planned to eliminate up to 2,000 job, or 4 to 5 percent of its global workforce.
As previously reported, 268 jobs were cut in the Twin Cities, Cragle said. The company headquarters is in Fridley.
Cragle said a report published Monday about 82 new layoffs in Memphis was inaccurate. Those layoffs were part of the earlier reduction, and occurred weeks ago, he said.
