Mayor Jacob Frey and his wife, Sarah Clarke, announced the birth Thursday of their second daughter — 10 days after Clarke’s due date.
Estelle Bloom Frey “arrived happy and healthy early this morning, and both mom and baby are doing well,” the family said in a news release.
“Sarah is a badass who handles it all with strength and grace, and giving birth early this morning was no exception,” Frey said. “Together, we are over the moon. Estelle is a beaming light, and Frida is already stepping into her big sister role like a pro. We feel incredibly lucky and are grateful for all the love from our great Minneapolis family.”
Estelle joins Jacob and Sarah’s 4-year-old daughter, Frida, and their two cats, Ronda and Stella. Their midwife is the wife of St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, Sakeena Futrell-Carter, who also was the midwife for Frida when she was born in September 2020.
Frey is up for re-election in November, facing about a half dozen challengers.
Clarke, a former lobbyist who is now a lawyer for a solar energy company, was pregnant with Frida during the tumultuous first months of the COVID-19 pandemic and chaotic weeks after Minneapolis police killed George Floyd.
She said in 2023 the couple debated whether or not to have another child, knowing they’d eventually need to expand from their apartment to a home, where security would be a concern for them and their neighbors.
