A man was shot and killed in Minneapolis Thursday night, the city’s second homicide of 2026 following the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent.

Police went to the 700 block of Queen Avenue North a little before 9:30 p.m. Jan. 8 after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a man with a gunshot wound, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said in a news release.

No arrests have been made. The shooter fled the scene before officers arrived, according to the release, and investigators still are working to determine the circumstances around the shooting.

“The loss of a life is always tragic, and my thoughts are with the victim’s family,” O’Hara said. “Our investigators are working to follow leads and bring some sense of justice for the victim and his family.”

It’s the second homicide so far of the year, following the fatal shooting of Minneapolis resident Renee Good by ICE agent Jonathan Ross on Wednesday, Jan.7.

In 2025 there were 65 homicides in Minneapolis, according to a Minnesota Star Tribune database.
