Officials have identified the man who was killed in a daylight shooting over the weekend on a Minneapolis street.

Demeetrous Eugene Martin, 44, of Minneapolis was shot multiple times Saturday while in the 3000 block of Grand Avenue S., steps away from W. Lake Street, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

Police said officers found Martin shortly after 1 p.m., and he was declared dead at the scene.

They said Martin had been standing outside when a vehicle stopped, a man stepped out and shot him.

A suspect was arrested that same day in Minneapolis in the 4700 block of Cedar Avenue S. and booked into jail, police said.

The jail log identified him as a 21-year-old man from Minneapolis. He was released from jail Tuesday afternoon without charges and as the investigation continued. The Star Tribune generally does not identify suspects before they are charged.

“This shooting in broad daylight is a level of brazen violence that we cannot tolerate,” Police Chief Brian O’Hara said in a statement.

He said investigators were still piecing together what happened, and he asked anyone with information to share it.

The death comes after another man was killed in a shooting by 24th Street and 18th Avenue S., near East Phillips Park, shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday, according to police.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office said the victim, Michael Alfred Johnson, 27, died of a gunshot wound to his torso.

And around 2:30 a.m. Friday, a man who family and friends said was local DJ and “neighborhood fixture” Justin “Juice” Marshall, 37, was fatally shot near the intersection of W. Franklin Avenue and Lyndale Avenue S.

Family members said in an online fundraiser that he was killed on his birthday as he biked home.

No arrests have been announced these other fatal shootings.
