Man exits vehicle at south Minneapolis intersection and fatally shoots man remaining inside, police say

No arrests have been announced in the shooting early Friday near Franklin and Lyndale.

A man stepped out of a vehicle overnight in Minneapolis and fatally shot another man who remained inside, officials said.

The shooting occurred about 2:30 a.m. Friday near the intersection of W. Franklin Avenue and Lyndale Avenue S., police said.

No arrests have been announced, and the victim’s identity had yet to be released as of Friday evening.

According to police:

Officers responded to the shooting scene and found a man in his 30s with gunshot wounds. Emergency medical responders took him to HCMC, where he died.

“Preliminary information indicates the victim was speaking with a male inside of a vehicle,“ a police statement read. ”The man inside the vehicle got out and fired shots toward the victim, striking him. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.”

There have been 34 homicides in Minneapolis this year, according to a Minnesota Star Tribune database. That compares to 43 at this time last year in the city.
