Authorities in Minneapolis are investigating a shooting overnight that killed a man.

The Minneapolis Police Department announced the investigation Saturday, explaining that officers responded to reports of a shooting near 24th Street and 18th Avenue S., near East Phillips Park, just before 1 a.m. They arrived to find a man in his 20s with a critical gunshot wound.

Officers gave the man medical aid before emergency crews brought the man to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital, but he died sometime later. His name has not been released.

“Gun violence has claimed another life, devastated another family, and further traumatized a community,” Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said, in comments released by the department. He encouraged anyone with information to come forward.

Investigators believe an argument led to the shooting and said an alleged shooter fled the scene. No arrests had been made as of Saturday morning.
