Gophers captain Kyle Rau was named the Big Ten hockey Second Star of the Week on Tuesday after propelling the Gophers to an overtime victory in the Mariucci Classic consolation game.
Rau scored the game-winning goal and had an assist against RIT on Saturday night for his sixth multi-point game of the season. He also contributed an assist in Friday’s 3-2 loss to Merrimack.
The senior from Eden Prairie leads the team with 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists). Rau is the NCAA’s active leading scorer with 143 career points in 137 games and 20 of his 54 career goals have been game-winners.
The Gophers are 75-11-7 all-time when Rau scores a point and 37-3-0 when he has two points or more.
Ohio State senior forward Matt Johnson (Stillwater, Minn.) was the Big Ten’s First Star after recording a hat trick and five goals over the weekend, and Wisconsin senior goaltender Joel Rumpel was the Third Star.
