Kiley files suit against papers and reporters

July 20, 2010 at 2:08AM

Onetime radio host and financial adviser Pat Kiley, Monday sued the Star Tribune, the Pioneer Press, three reporters and four others for defamation, claiming that news accounts and information provided to authorities improperly linked him to money manager Trevor Cook, who pleaded guilty earlier this year to defrauding investors out of at least $190 million.

In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis, Kiley asserts that stories about him in the two newspapers were malicious, reckless and caused "irreparable damage to his reputation in the community of radio listeners." Kiley is representing himself in the suit.

Three of the other four defendants named by Kiley were affiliated with Cook at one time or another.
