At last year’s Farm Aid 40 at the University of Minnesota, John Mellencamp offered just a taste of his tunes. Now he’s coming back for a full evening of hits on July 14 at the new Mystic Lake Amphitheater in Shakopee.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer is undertaking his first amphitheater trek in years, calling it Dancing Words Tour — The Greatest Hits. The 19-date tour kicks off July 10 in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Mellencamp promises to play such hits as “Pink Houses” and “Jack and Diane” as well as some of the tunes he hasn’t done live in a decade including “I Need a Lover” and “Wild Night.”

The Indiana rock hero last headlined in the Twin Cities in 2023 with three sold-out nights at the State Theatre in Minneapolis. He appeared at Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival in Somerset, Wis., in 2024 and at Farm Aid last September at Huntington Bank Stadium.

Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets beginning Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. until Jan. 22 at 10 p.m. through the Citi Entertainment program.

General on sale begins Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. at Mellencamp.com. Prices have not been announced.

There has been no announcement of the official opening of the new amphitheater in Shakopee operated by Live Nation.

Among the announced concerts for the venue thus far are Jack Johnson (July 12), Chris Stapleton (July 29), Guns N’ Roses (Aug. 8), Train (Aug. 9), Lynyrd Skynyrd (Aug. 16) and Mötley Crüe (Aug. 21).
