It’s Taste day in the Cambria Kitchen, and local makers will be dishing up fun

Star Tribune recipe columnists Beth Dooley and Meredith Deeds will join other favorite Minnesota cooks at the fair on Aug. 28 for a delicious day of demonstrations.

Minnesota cooks and books featured by the Star Tribune Taste team will take over the Cambria Kitchen in the Creative Activities Building on Aug. 28 for a day of cooking demonstrations. Here’s the all-star lineup:

10 a.m., Nadya Goncharova: Featured in the book “Kitchen of Hope: Immigrants Share Stories of Resilience and Recipes from Home,” Goncharova, from Latvia, currently is the food and beverage director at the American Swedish Institute.

11 a.m., Amalia Moreno-Damgaard: A champion of Latin culture and cuisine, Moreno balances traditional dishes with modern concepts in her two award-winning cookbooks, “Amalia’s Guatemalan Kitchen” and “Amalia’s Mesoamerican Table.”

Noon, Nicole Aufderhar: Those who don’t know the Walker, Minn., baker for her blue-ribbon efforts at the fair might know her from her turn on “The Great American Baking Show” last summer. She wowed judges with her State Fair-inspired cake.

1 p.m., Thekla Rura-Polley: Another cook featured in the book “Kitchen of Hope" by Linda S. Svitak and Christin Jaye Eaton with Lee Svitak Dean. Rura-Polley, from Germany, works in development for community and human rights organizations.

2 p.m., Meredith Deeds: Avid Taste readers will recognize this name. In addition to writing and developing recipes for the Star Tribune, Deeds has taught classes and written several cookbooks, including the James Beard-nominated “The Big Book of Appetizers.”

3 p.m., Stephanie Hansen: Hansen is the host of the Emmy award-winning show “Taste Buds with Stephanie,” host of “The Weekly Dish” radio show, contributor to Fox 9’s “The Jason Show” and author of “True North Cabin Cookbook” and its just-released sequel.

4 p.m., Beth Dooley: The Taste recipe developer and columnist has made a career of putting Minnesota and Northern cooking in the spotlight. She has authored more than a dozen cookbooks, including ones written with local culinary luminaries Lucia Watson and Sean Sherman.
