The latest: JD Vance to visit Minnesota this week as federal immigration surge continues

The vice president is scheduled to visit Minnesota on Thursday amid tensions in the state over the Trump administration’s enforcement push.

Vice President JD Vance will travel to Minnesota on Thursday, according to a source with knowledge of the visit. Details about Vance’s trip weren’t immediately available.

A source familiar with his plans said Vance will hold a roundtable with stakeholders.

Here’s what else you need to know:

  • The Department of Justice subpoenaed the offices of Gov. Tim Walz and other Minnesota officials as part of a probe into whether local leaders impeded immigration operations.
    • The DOJ is also investigating the protest that disrupted a church service in St. Paul on Sunday. President Donald Trump called for the protesters to be jailed.
      • Trump called the shooting of Renee Good a “tragedy” and said ICE agents are “going to make mistakes sometimes.”
        • U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said a recent court order limiting ICE tactics in Minnesota “didn’t change anything.”
