The Minnesota Department of Transportation is ready to install beams for the new Burnsville Parkway bridge over Interstate 35W. To do that, the agency will close a portion of the freeway on Monday and Tuesday nights.
From 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, both directions of I-35W between Interstate 494 in Bloomington and the I-35E/35W split in Burnsville will be closed. The same segment also will be closed during the same hours overnight Tuesday to Wednesday morning, MnDOT said.
This summer, the agency has been building a new bridge to carry Burnsville Parkway over I-35W. Over the next two nights, crews will install beams for the new bridge, said spokeswoman Jennie Hinz.
Drivers can use I-35E, Hwy. 77/Cedar Avenue and I-494 to get around the closure.
The Burnsville Parkway bridge is part of an $80 million project that includes rebuilding and resurfacing I-35W between Cliff Road and the I-35E/35W split.
In related closures, MnDOT will close the following ramps:
- Eastbound Hwy. 13 to southbound I-35W
- Southbound I-35W to westbound Hwy. 13
- Southbound I-35W to County Road 42
- The ramps at Hwy. 13 will remain closed through September, and the County 42 ramp will remain closed through October.
Motorists can expect to see construction in the area through October, with the project resuming again in the spring.
